Spiced Sweet Potato Creamy Soup

Creamy soups are excellent when you need comfort food just because they are rich, creamy and every spoon is packed with flavors. This particular recipe uses sweet potatoes for creaminess and oranges for a bit of tanginess, as well as spices for an intense aroma, creating a soup that floods your senses with aroma.

  • 2 large sweet potatos, peeled & cubed
  • 2 large carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 bacon slices, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • juice from 1 orange
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable stock
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon chili flakes


Step 1

Heat a medium size soup pot on medium flame. Stir in the bacon and cook until crisp. When done, remove the bacon on a plate.

Step 2

In the fat left from bacon, sauté the onion for 5 minutes until soft and translucent.

Step 3

Add the carrot and sweet potatoes and sauté for 5 more minutes, then pour in the stock.

Step 4

Stir in the chili flakes, salt and thyme.

Step 5

Cook for 20 minutes or until the veggies are soft and tender.

Step 6

Using an immersion blender, puree the soup until well blended and smooth.

Step 7

Add the orange zest and juice and cook for 5 more minutes.

Step 8

Taste and add more salt or freshly ground pepper if needed.

Step 9

Serve warm drizzled with coconut milk if you like.
